Why I can’t stand fake marketing (and what I’m doing about it)
Hi, I’m Alicia.
I’m a mom, a wife, a woman of faith, and someone who’s spent the better part of two decades helping families figure out what to feed their kids, what products are worth buying, and how to navigate the overwhelming world of family wellness.
For the past 4 and a half years, I’ve also been making natural bath and body products under Pure & Simple Mama. Products my family actually uses that I sell locally.
And now? I write for the wellness brands I believe in!
But getting here wasn’t exactly a straight line. More like one of those chaotic mornings where you’re trying to get everyone out the door, realize someone’s missing a shoe, you forget your phone, and somehow still make it work. 🤪
Let me tell you how I got here, complete with all the messy details, LOL!
17 years of snotty noses, spelt flour, and “what’s REALLY in that?”
For 17 years, I ran an in-home daycare.
I became the person parents turned to when they had questions about raising their kids. Everything from developmental phases, what to feed and not feed, what to look for with sickness (and how to avoid it if possible), alternative flours, A2 milk, natural remedies, and essential oils.
Not because I read about it online, but because I was living it daily with my own family and seeing real results.
Parents trusted me with their kids and when you’re trusted with someone’s kid, you don’t mess around with recommendations.
I was recommending them to dozens of families who counted on me to tell them the truth:
- Which spelt flour actually works for baking
- Why A2 milk makes a difference for some kids
- What essential oils helped with sleep without all the hype
- When to worry about a fever and when to let it run its course
I didn’t have time for marketing fluff. I had real families with real questions who needed real answers.
Then I became a writer (and wrote for everyone… oops)
A few years ago, I decided to take this passion for helping families and turn it into something more.
I started writing for my blog, Pure & Simple Mama. Then I became a copywriter for rural small business owners for 2 years.
I love small businesses because they are our community’s strength. Small business owners have heart and work so hard to make that dream a reality. I still write for them today.
But those 2 years taught me something important about myself.
The best content comes from authentic belief.
When I write for wellness brands, food bloggers, and clean-ingredient companies, something lights up in me.
These are the products I use,
the brands I believe in, and the space I already live in!
That’s where my passion is and when you find your passion, you know it! 🤩
I ghosted my own blog (the irony)
I haven’t written a blog post in a long time. Mainly out of fear. 🫣
Fear of being judged for living life and not having time. Fear of not being what others want to read. Fear that I’m not good enough to compete with all the other bloggers out there.
All of this created a place of imposter syndrome and limiting beliefs in myself and my abilities.
I’ve been in two writing courses, one of which I’m currently in and led me to premium ghostwriting. Ghostwriting is the missing link that I didn’t know I needed.
Premium Ghostwriting Academy is amazing and has a community of people and coaches that continue to teach and push me every day to be the best I can be.
I always knew I loved writing, but it’s even better for me now. I pour my heart into my writing, and I hope it shows! 🥰
Why fake marketing burns you every time

I can’t stand fake people in real life, so why would I want fake marketing?
You know exactly what I’m talking about. Those blog posts and emails where brands act like you’re best friends when you just met.
If you wouldn’t walk up to a stranger and act like you’re attached at the hip, don’t do it in your copy! 🙄
You have to BUILD connection first. You can’t fake authenticity and expect people to trust you.
Fakeness creates distrust. It will burn you every single time.
I like my friends genuine, so why would I trust a brand that gives me fake vibes?
The moment everything clicked: My light bulb moment 💡
After 2 years of writing across every industry, I realized what I should have been doing all along.
Ghostwriting for the wellness and food brands I’d been recommending to families for 17 years.
The brands with real ingredients and honest values, the ones I actually believed in.
Because when I believe in what you’re building, that conviction shows in every word.
I’m not learning your space, I already live it.
Why this blog and my business are one story
Some people might think it’s weird to have a mama blog, a product line, and a marketing business all on the same website.
But to me? It’s a full circle.
What makes me different: I wasn’t in marketing first. I was a mom and customer first.
I was the mom searching for clean ingredients. Reading labels. Trying products and recommending them to other families. Then I became a product maker. And now I help wellness brands reach customers like me.
This gives me a leg up on other writers because I truly see all sides of this equation. The customer, the maker, and the marketer.
Here’s what you’ll find on this blog:
- Real food recipes I actually make
- My bath and body product creations and formulations
- Natural supplements I use with my own family
- Parenting advice I’ve been giving families for years
- Tips and tricks for everything from baking with alternative flours to creating your own natural wellness products
- Spotlights and shoutouts to companies I actually use, know, and trust
My product line, Pure & Simple Mama’s bath and body products, is proof I don’t just recommend clean ingredients. I formulate with them.
And my marketing business? That’s where I help wellness brands, food bloggers, and clean-ingredient companies tell their stories in a way that connects with families.
I am one of those families and because I’ve walked in their shoes as a product maker myself.
And you know what else you won’t find on this website?
Clickbait or Pop-ups. Ads that get in the way of you actually reading.
I HATE clickbait and refuse to put it on my website. The only companies you’ll see are ones I feature in my sidebar or in my posts. Companies I actually use, know, and trust.
No random ads. No sponsored junk I don’t believe in. IF you see a brand on my website, just know I use it and recommend it whole heartedly!
I know I’m breaking all the website rules for earning money. No pop-ups, no clickbait, no ads everywhere.
But maybe I can start a trend.
I choose simple and authentic over money any day.
How I can help you
If you’re a mom or parent:
I’ve got a FREE 5-day educational email course called “How to Parent Like a Boss” that covers everything from avoiding the yellow veggie trap to trusting your mama gut over ChatGPT.
It’s honest, relatable, nothing sugarcoated. And I promise it’ll make you laugh while helping you take back your sanity.
If you’re a wellness brand, food blogger, or clean-ingredient company:
You need a writer who doesn’t just research your products. Someone who already uses them. Someone who knows your audience because they’ve guided hundreds of families through these exact decisions.
That’s where I come in.
I ghostwrite LinkedIn posts, emails, and content for brands I genuinely believe in. Content that sounds real because it is.
Let’s keep it REAL
This has been a long journey of figuring out how I can effectively help other moms and families just like mine. And help the brands that serve them do it with authenticity.
I created this website in 2020 without any knowledge on how, but with the determination to learn and make it work.
My beginning posts are not good (lol). But as I have grown, they are growing with me.
I thought about going back and changing those original posts. But then I realized I’m “Pure & Simple,” which means I’m REAL.
And being real means being honest about where I started and how much this journey has grown me as a writer.
I’m not perfect. I’m still figuring things out as I go.
But one thing I know for sure?
I like my friends genuine.
And your marketing should be too.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll stick around.
Alicia
