Healthy Homemade Bisquick

Who doesn’t love Bisquick? It has been a staple pantry item for years. Not only is it loved by adults, but kids also enjoy the quick, delicious treats. It was, and still is, appealing to all because of the versatility and ease that comes in a box. Now days, this quick and easy stuff comes with a hefty price tag and very unhealthy ingredients. So, why not make it yourself with healthy ingredients? That way, you can have it on hand whenever you need it. Now, that I have your attention and got you all excited, I want to tell you this recipe is not only yummy, but healthy! Coconut Oil, instead of hydrogenated oils and trans fats, along with the wonderful Unbleached White Spelt Flour, aluminum free baking powder and pure cane sugar, makes this ALMOST a health food.

When you have diet restrictions, making things taste the very best is important. I am trying to perfect the Gluten Free version of this recipe, so it is not quite ready to reveal yet, but it won’t be long. I promise, when I have it finished, it will be just as good as the Spelt Flour version. So, stay tuned….

This Healthy Homemade Bisquick should be kept in an airtight container in a cool dry place. It will be good for at least 4-5 months. Coconut oil will become liquid if put in temperatures above 76 degrees. That would ruin your mixture so you want to make sure you store in a cool place.

Below, I have included the links for the ingredients. I hope you all enjoy using it!

Make this easy homemade version of everybody's favorite all purpose baking mix. Coconut oil instead of shortening, transforms this old favorite into a new and healthy pantry staple.
Prep Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Unbleached White Spelt Flour
  • 2 Tbsp aluminum free baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp pure cane sugar
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tsp xanthan gum
  • 1/2 cup Refined Coconut Oil

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine all ingredients; except coconut oil. Make sure the dry ingredients are mixed well. Now, add the coconut oil by chunks into the flour mixture. Take a fork or pastry blender and cut in the coconut oil until all the flour is incorporated with the oil. It will be in pea sized crumbles. Finally, place this in an air-tight container and it is ready for you to use anytime. This should last at least 4-5 months if kept air-tight and in a cool place.

Notes

**Remember that coconut oil will melt at 76 degrees and up.  So, it is important to keep this stored in a cool place or this mix will ruin.**
